PengHao Theater and Cafe, nestled in Beijing’s historic Hutong district behind the Central Academy of Drama, is China’s first and most widely known independent theater.  Many of China’s top theater directors and artists, as well as rising newcomers, produce experimental pieces in the 100-200person blackbox theater.

From the subway: 地铁：

Nearest subway: Nanluoguxiang, Line 6 – Any Exit

Exit the subway and cross the big road in front of you (head north).  Enter NanLuoGuXiang (as of 2013, the entry-way is under heavy construction, but passable).  Walk north until you reach the Central Academy of Drama – a large gated compound on your right.  Turn right (east) on to DongMianHua Hutong(the street bordering the Central Academy of Drama).   Walk about 150m along the Drama Academy perimeter.  The first alleyway on the left leads to PengHao Theater.  PengHao has a blue sign hanging above the alley entrance.

From the Nanlouguxiang area: 从南罗鼓相：
Turn east at the Central Academy of Drama’s Experimental Theatre toward the gate of the school. Walk 150m past the school gate and you will see a small round sign “Peng Hao Theatre/Bar/Cafe” on the left. Turn down the tiny tiny hutong and you will see the theatre.
